Peer Support Network – Eligibility Criteria for Membership

Role: Peer Support Network Member Supporting and guiding peer support group leaders across Saskatchewan

Purpose of the Network

The Peer Support Network exists to strengthen the quality and sustainability of peer support groups by providing mentorship, guidance, and encouragement to new and current peer support group leaders. Members of the network serve as trusted guides, sharing lived experience and leadership skills to empower others.

Eligibility Criteria

Lived Experience

  • Lived experience with mental health, addictions or recovery-related challenges is a bonus but not necessary.
  • Must be willing and able to share aspects of this lived experience to support others in a respectful and constructive way.

Peer Support Group Involvement

  • Must currently lead or have previously led a peer support group.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in facilitating, co-facilitating, or organizing peer support groups.

Commitment to Peer Support Principles

  • Demonstrates understanding of peer support values, including mutuality, respect, empowerment, and non-judgment.
  • Practices confidentiality, active listening, and non-directive support.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills

  • Able to maintain professional, supportive, and compassionate relationships.
  • Strong verbal communication and group facilitation skills.
  • Willing to engage with new group leaders through phone, email, or in-person as needed.

Training & Continued Learning

  • Must have completed or be willing to complete peer support training recognized by the Peer Support Network.
  • Willing to engage in ongoing training and development activities.

Availability

  • Able to provide regular peer mentorship (e.g., monthly check-ins or as needed).
  • Willing to be contacted by new group leaders within a reasonable time frame.

  • Supports the mission of the Saskatchewan Peer Support Network to increase access to quality peer support services province-wide.
  • Committed to helping foster community, leadership, and resilience among group leaders.
